Chutney comes from the Indian world chatni or catni which means strongly seasond. In the Indian version of chutney we refer to the mix of fruit or vegetables with various spices, cooked together to accompany cold or hot dishes.

It's about a sweet sour marmalade that simmers slowly with vinegar and sugar.

Chutneys make a delightful complement to hot or cold meat, chicken, cheese, eggs or vegetables. It is so flexible it can be served cold or warm, depending on the dish. Serve it with fresh bread, on sandwiches or toasts.
